"Subsequent Developments" regarding an underpowered poorly done widely publicized study study suggesting oat bran had no significant cholesterol lowering properties.

This article concerned a small study on the effects of oat bran on cholesterol levels. This poorly interpreted study which received widespread media attention at the time may have stopped the oat bran fad prematurely, but it did not stop further research.  The documentation in the scientific literature showing the cholesterol lowering effect of dietary soluble fiber (such as oat bran) as an adjunct in lowering cholesterol is extensive.
